How to Reset Epson Printers

How to Reset Epson Printers

Not all Epson printers have reset buttons.
Epson produces many models of inkjet and laser printers that are ideal for business use. On occasion, you may experience printer errors as a result of drivers becoming corrupted or documents containing defective data that the printer cannot process. Some business printers from Epson include a simple reset button that you can press to quickly clear the corrupted data from your printer's buffer and easily return to printing additional documents.

Step 1Locate the control panel of your Epson printer. It is usually on the top right-hand side of your printer, near any digital display screen that the printer may have, and where the button used to turn the computer on and off is also located. Find the button marked "Pause/Reset," "Reset/Continue" or "Reset" on the row of buttons on the control panel. Skip to Step 3 if your model of Epson printer does not have a reset button.
Step 2Hold the "Reset" or "Pause/Reset" button down for at least three seconds to clear the print job and reset your printer so you can start printing again.
Step 3Press the "On/Off" or "Power" button to turn your printer off if your model does not have a reset button, and press it to turn your printer on again after a few seconds.
Step 4Try printing again. Repeat Step 2 or 3 again if you still experience printer errors and attempt to print one additional time. Update your drivers and check your document for errors if you still cannot print the document you were trying to print before you needed to reset your computer.

Tips

  • Download a new set of drivers from the Epson support page and install them on your computer if you experience persistent printer errors. Updating the software you use to create documents and being careful not to print documents that show any error or out-of-memory messages on-screen also helps to prevent printer errors.
  • Some older printers enable you to upload special font settings by holding the "Alt" key on the control panel down along with the reset button. Consult your owner's manual to find out more about the "Alt" key on these models, most of which are laser printers.
